After a heavy weekend my Monday was a difficult day and I failed to start my new regime.
However the Tuesday I started with complete enthusiasm ready to go and not unhappy that I'd missed the previous mornings breakfast of five eggs!
Having had a gentle start had at least given me a chance to prepare better and buy the various ingredients I would need for the next few days. Having said that the food was all easily available and nothing exotic just simple ingredients but lots of it.
Tuesday
My Tuesday menu was probably the easiest day preparation wise which was a good help and I felt in the right mood to give it my all.
Immediately however my thoughts about the portion sizes were confirmed and I struggled to eat my lunch but got through it.
Having a snack which included 4 rice cakes in the afternoon was a challenge and I certainly wasn't feeling hungry.
I attended my usual gym circuit class that evening and felt I under performed due to feeling so full! I was a little unhappy at this but quickly brought myself to thinking it's the first day give it a chance only to be faced with a mountain of food for my evening meal when I arrived home.
I certainly didn't crave any snacks or food the rest of the evening took myself off to bed with my stomach trying to recover. Normally I would only eat one full meal a day with lunch normally light after breakfast of porridge ever morning.
Wednesday
Up early knowing I had to prepare my meals and also that with work I would be out on the road for the first part of the day (this element was a worry when trying to stick to the regime) dashing around the kitchen throwing my breakfast together and lunch I hit the road early.
Fortunately my breakfast was suitable to eat when I arrived at my first destination and I did enjoy it thoroughly. There was a lot of interest in my food from the site I visited generating the healthy options we all know we should adhere to.
I managed to get back to my office in time for lunch allowing me to prepare and again for a lunch it was far more than I was used to and took some eating between the huffing and puffing but I got there.
Still feeling full through the day with a lighter snack in the afternoon and a full meal in the evening I felt I was about to pop. But I was still adamant to continue and had my faith in the programme. Others I knew had told me of their success.
Thursday
Up earlier than normal again to prep for the day and knowing the breakfast today was the 5 egg omelette the kitchen was a hive of activity chopping and cracking as I produced the beast and promptly started to tackle it. I finished it and noticing I also had to eat a piece of fruit I looked for the smallest banana on the bunch.
Bags packed with food for the day I headed off to the office. Starting to get into more of a routine and up until the egg bomb my stomach was coping better.
Can a man really eat this much a day? were the sort of questions I kept asking myself but I continued and today seemed like one of the days when you have to eat more than other I think partly due to the breakfast starting off the food intake.
Due to work commitments I missed the gym class but attended later just to lift a few weights (no cardio) and I felt good. However the downside was eating later and the amount I had to get through including large portions of veg and potatoes meant that I wasn't going to bed early that evening.
But another day of keeping strictly to the eating programme - come on I've got this.
Friday
As part of the regime I weigh myself daily and the Fitbit scales are ideal for this sending the info direct to my phone app. Can this be right? 95 kg? That's a loss of 1.2 kg 3 days in! If ever I needed any further inspiration there it was.
Maybe it was an easier day of food or maybe I was settling in already but it felt far better today. The portion sizes are still causing some issues but the yogurt based breakfast suited me and I felt pretty good all day.
The evening meal almost a treat given the weeks previous meals although the portion size remained large.
It's the weekend and although I didn't start Monday I have got through a working week and kept strictly on programme.
Saturday
Due to my usual Saturday morning double gym class (pump and boot camp) I decided to switch my Saturday/Sunday breakfast around opting for the smoothie option rather than eggs and bacon. A 9.00am start at the gym doesn't suit a heavy breakfast.
After the usual tiring session at the gym it was home to a pleasing and fairly light lunch which was seafood based.
No snack portions at the weekend but Saturday evening is a meal of choice and given I had only just started I tried to maintain some sense by having a turkey meatballs with pasta. Ditching the starter and pudding option so I could off-set these for a vodka and soda.
I would normally drink more on a Saturday evening but the restriction and reduction this week didn't bother me. I will also admit to pinching some of the wife's fruit pastilles they were far too tempting. But again previously I could have eaten a full bag!
Sunday
Lie in!! Then up to eggs and bacon and a lazy day I hoped. However the way things panned out I found myself getting back home late in the afternoon to have to demolish my lunch menu at around 3.00pm
This is far from ideal I know but the main reason I was shopping for the week ahead.
My turn to cook in the evening and it was quite a task to prepare my provided bolognese recipe whilst cooking wonderful steaks and sweet potato chips. But there will be far more testing times ahead I'm sure and I did see the funny side.
With just about a week completed how did I feel?
Pleased I'd kept to the strict diet and recipes of the start of my plan
Happy that this morning my weight was down from 96.2 kg to 94.1 kg in less than a week - I'm well aware this is not going to happen every week.
Still full and struggling with portion size.
Happy that on checking my Fitbit app my sleep patterns were also starting to change but I will save that for a seperate blog
