Firstly my apologies for not posting last week but with just such a busy time at work and other commitments the Blog had to take a backseat. I actually missed it myself as it is a little comfort blanket and makes me more committed to the cause having to be accountable.

So we are currently passing through what is known as the most depressing part of the year and trying to get back on track is not easy. Especially when the house still seems to be full of the Christmas after effects and temptations to stray. I can't resist every time and given we know that sugar is an addiction we are all trying to keep on the straight and narrow. I've not completely fallen off the wagon but some old habits start to creep in and the lifestyle takes a hit.

I know a reformed smoker who always tells me he is just one cigarette from smoking again. But he doesn't have one and his willpower at nearly 85 is an inspiration to me.

So in the last two weeks I have maintained and not had the eating lifestyle every day that I would have wished for but I feel confident with myself and have the knowledge to progress.

This week's picture was part of the thing I referred to in my last blog as I was impressed that a local U18 football coach who is a friend asked if I would attend training and give his team a fitness workout. I'm no expert in this field and lack qualifications but after many years of circuits etc. and some advice from a PT friend of mine I put together a 30 minute programme.

I enjoyed every minute of it even when some of the players I know started to call me by different names. One unexpected thing I did get out of it though was seeing how quickly they tired in the session doing similar things that I do myself week in week out. I felt that I could compare my own fitness and where I had come to against them. If I do it again I want to take part and see the results and comparisons.

Unfortunately with time but mainly weather I am still yet to have a meaningful outing on the new bike but hope to achieve this in the next couple of weeks.

However I am progressing well with my C25K journey and will be starting week 4 this week and it is going far better than expected. I am no runner and certainly not built to be one but in preparation for the up and coming warrior event in June I need to have some level of training and running ability under my belt. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to start running and it only takes about 20 minutes three times a week.

I believe week 4 will have me running in batches up to 5 minutes which previously was a little beyond me (I thought)

Yesterday I watched a TV programme in the series of walks around the country and it featured one of my favourites Pen y Ghent and I have now logged it as one of my gotta do things this year. Ideally I would do the whole three peaks but I'll settle for just the one. Long time since i have been at the top of it but I can still remember the feeling standing up there.

Socialising is low down on the list for many in January but last Saturday I met up again with fellow members of Team Impact to celebrate two birthdays and as always it is great to meet face-to-face with the others and discuss not only nutrition but also get to know them a little better for when we all lean on each other for support.

Amazing how many are into the dry January mode.

Part of my personal life this week has seen the need for me to make an annual appointment with my GP to assess my general health focusing on my blood pressure etc. Wonder if he will have anything to say when I walk in almost 3 stone lighter than last time.

I will let you know!

So as we near the end of January let's be positive we are nearly another month out of the winter and soon those light nights and warmer weather will be upon us.
