After taking the plunge and registering with the Nutritionist my first task was to meticulously record eating habits over a seven day period. I found MyFitnessPal invaluable in doing this and allowing the Nutritionist access to my account made life easier for the both of us.

Together with this I had complete an extensive questionnaire relating to my lifestyle including activities, training sleep patterns etc. together with the obvious health and allergy questions.

Also and perhaps the most scary was taking the 'before' pictures although the option was to wear clothing if you felt more comfortable. I chose to strip to underwear I didn't wish to hide from my body and been truthful to yourself is in my mind the best way if you can face it.

I was also instructed to take some body measurements and again for me this is a great reminder as to why I chose to embark on the journey.

In less than seven days my plan hit my Inbox and I was surprised at the level of information contained and how my obvious issues were highlighted. I struggle to have a reasonable sleep pattern and was aware that I was a 'binge' drinker.

Turning to the diet page the first thing that struck me was the quantities of food I was going to be expected to eat. Lie most people I've always worked on the theory that less is better and using MyFitnessPal on my own would just stick to the calorie intake. Some of the the meals where far more than I would eat and the one that stuck out was a five egg omelette breakfast with trimmings two days a week!

My plan informed me that I was to try stick to the day-by-day meals plan as strickly as possible over the initial two weeks and this would be then reviewed and more flexible plans achieved by working together.

Like everybody my diet always starts next week and my excuse this week was a weeks family holiday and a weekend celebrating my son's 18th birthday. But I was determined that was it come September 4th I was on it no more delays no more excuses.
